Copyright
You need to write about copyright and confidentiality and how it might apply to your book. First, lets look at what copyright is, then think about how it applies to the booklet you have made.
Copyright is given automatically to the creators of art, music, films and writing (plus some others). It means authors can control who makes copies of their work and means that they can get paid. To reproduce a copyrighted piece of work, you need permission from the creator, with a few exceptions
Some limited use of copyrighted material may be allowed, for example in education, or if it is for private use only. This means that it is ok to use other people's pictures in our booklets while they are only used in school, but if we were going to publish them we would need permision for the pictures etc.
Write one paragraph describing what copyright means and another about how it applies to the booklet
Here are some extra web-resources that may help you to write the report on copyright.
©Teach-ICT has a minisite about software piracy - how does this apply?
There's also a mini-site about copyright to have a look at. These are both aimed at GCSE students, you should be able to understand all of this - other pages may have more complicated language.
©WhatIsCopyright.org has some useful information, based on International Copyright Law. It answers some common questions on what copyright means for creators and users.
©Intellectual-property.gov.uk has a useful section on copyright, written with British Law in mind. Again, it answers lots of questions about what copyright is and what it means.
©An article on Peterborough.net has more helpful (British) information on intellectual property and copyright.
@Find out about the Data Protection Act and think how it applies to you or your family.
@This Government website will give even more detail if you need it.
