You will be writing a report on health and safety issues linked to using a computer or other ICT equipment, whether in school, an office or any other location.Things to research:
- Why do I need to consider health and safety issues with using ICT?
- Legal responsibilities of employers
- Avoid accidents
- Avoid injury (including long-term complaints such as repetitive strain injury) to employees
What safety issues do I need to consider to ensure safe use of ICT equipment?
- Comfort
- Space to work efficiently and safely
- Seating (back strain) - needs to be adjustable
- Monitor height / angle and light on the screen (neck strain)
- Keyboards.. . height and angle (wrist strain)
- Discs (can break - sharp edges)
- Noise
- Heat and light: ventilation and blinds
- Personal safety: no trailing cables, stray toner or ink etc.
- Electrical safety... wiring issues ... what type of fire extinguishers?
- Hazardous substances eg toner - safe storage
- Suitable first aid equipment
- Mobile equipment.. trolleys etc. need to be anchored when in use

- How to ensure the computer room is a safe place
- Safety rules for the workplace
